School Crossing Supervisor

We are asking families to remind children to be vigilant when using the School Crossing. Unfortunately, we do have vehicles that travel too quickly in this area and fail to stop for pedestrians despite the signage in place for our school zone. We will be speaking with students to remind them to be safe and to check that cars have stopped before crossing. We know that our children are our most precious gifts, and we want to keep them safe.

The advertisement for the School Crossing Supervisor at OLHC is still open. We encourage you to send the information either via the flyer found towards the back of the newsletter or with the links below.

The SCS role for Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School – Lismore is now live.

School Community Group Meeting

We thank Mrs Janita Thomson, Lead Family Partnerships, for her very informative workshop on Children and Digital Devices. We had a good number of families present who received a lot of information and a resource titled "The Tech Diet for Your Family" by Brad Marshall.

Thank you to all those families who were able to engage in this opportunity, we appreciate you being able to join us.

Art and Learning Showcase

We had wonderful turn out for our Art and Learning Showcase. Congratulations to our dancers and choir who entertained everybody will their wonderful performances. It was fantastic to see the joy and excitement from all the children who were  so eager to showoff some of their learning. I am sure you all appreciated the opportunity to see what wonderful learning has been taking place in our classrooms.

End of Term FUN DAY

It is that time of the year where we hold our end of term FUN DAY. This term we are going to do something a little bit different. It will mean that the day will be held at the beginning of next term on Friday the 17th of October. We will be taking the whole school to the Lismore Show Schools Day! More details and the required permissions will be provided closer to the event. Students will be informed at our Monday assembly.

Student Competition

Our reviewed Student Behaviour Policy is almost complete. As part of our review, we updated our School Values. As part of the process, we are holding a competition to have our students design an image to go with each of the four values: BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE A LEARNER and BE SAFE. One image will be selected for each, with the winners receiving a prize pack and the prestige of their image being displayed.

Students will have the competition explained to them on Monday, with a template provided for their entries. All they need to do if they wish to complete an entry is ask their teacher for it. The template is as follows.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

On Wednesday evening, our school and parish community gathered in prayer and celebration as 20 of our students received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Surrounded by their families, the children took this important step in their faith journey, experiencing God’s love, mercy and forgiveness in a special way.

The liturgy was a beautiful reminder of the gift of reconciliation and the call for each of us to live in peace with one another. We are very proud of our students for the reverence and joy they brought to the celebration, and we thank their families and teachers for walking alongside them in their preparation. A special thank you to Fr Bing for leading our students and community in this meaningful sacrament.

Please continue to keep these children in your prayers as they grow in faith and prepare for the Sacrament of Eucharist next Saturday 20th September at 4pm - all are welcome to join us for this sacrament.

Father's Day Liturgy

Last Thursday, we gathered as a school community to celebrate our fathers, grandfathers, and special father figures. We were blessed with a beautiful liturgy, thoughtfully prepared and led by 5P. The students shared prayers, readings, and reflections that highlighted the love and guidance fathers bring into our lives.

A very big thank you to 5P, Mrs Fry and Mrs Sheridan for leading us so reverently in prayer, and to all our families who joined us for this special occasion. We hope all our dads enjoyed a wonderful Father’s Day filled with love and appreciation.

Sports News

At OLHC, we love celebrating the sporting achievements of all our students. If your child has a special achievement that you would love for us to share with the school community, please send any photos and a short paragraph outlining their achievement to Mr Denny - zachary.denny@lism.catholic.edu.au

Stage 3 Multi-sports and Netball Gala Day:

Earlier this term, our Stage 3 students had the opportunity to participate in a multi-sport gala day. Students took part in a range of different sport rotations throughout the day, putting their skills to the test in some friendly competition. All students were excellent representatives of OLHC, and some have even come away with a renewed interest in getting involved in other sports.

Also held on the same day was the Richmond Zone Gala Day. Mrs Jeffery took nine of our students to the Lismore Netball Courts to compete against other schools in our zone. The girls played with great spirit and came away with four wins from the day.

Congratulations to the girls on their great sportsmanship throughout the day and to Mrs. Jeffery on being a super coach!

Soccer Gala Day:

On Wednesday, sixteen boys and girls came together to form the OLHC Soccer Team for 2025. They played three games throughout the day, demonstrating great sportsmanship and determination against strong opponents. It was wonderful to see the smiles on their faces and the positive communication among the team, especially considering this was their first time playing together and for some, their first time on a large field!

Congratulations to our Stage 3 students for being excellent representatives of our school!
